He's a solid starting QB in the NFL imo. he's gonna be massively overpaid and that's the problem.

why should we agree on that? 2021 we were in the champ game. what i read on this board is jimmy was a mid level solid starting QB for years. and massively overpaid. but we were winning when he was healthy.

Yea but Jimmy wasn't making 50mil+. I'm tired of this market price will dictate what a QB makes now like they are lobsters at a fancy restaurant. He should be paid commensurate with their skill. I know that's not how it will go down and that's frustrating
Jimmy was absolutely infuriating to watch most of the game but when the game was on the line, he usually did what he had to and put the team into position to win. In the regular season anyways. He failed in the Rams NFCC and SB but as far as regular season and getting the team to win, that's what made him a good QB. Brock is simply not doing that. I'm fine with whatever decision the top brass makes on Brock and if they pay him he has my full support but he seems to flip a switch and become a different QB with the game on the line. He's obviously mentally tough for getting this far and being as successful as he is but I do question his mental makeup at the end of games and his lack killer instinct.

He is a top ten qb. Number 7. Number 6 is Kermit and number 8 is loaf Goff. At least that's what the qb stats say. The numbers are there. For me, those stats are good for contract discussion but they don't tell the full story. Either way, he is getting the bag weather we want him to or not. For our sake let's hope he is truly better than trash can Jimmy g.

At the time is contract was up there if not the highest.. until the next guy up was due at least.

The owners don't care for that reason, because they are required to come close to spending all the cap in the long run.

The fans care because they want to win, and if you overpay any one player, that will cost you talent in other corners of your roster.

I care we overpaid Aiyuk. I'm worried about the percent of the cap Brock will consume, given it is so rare to win a SB with a QB taking more than 13 percent of the cap, which is less than $36m of next year's cap. But this situation evolved because there are a lot more receivers that can give you a reasonable chance to win a SB than the dozen or so quarterbacks on the planet. So if you are going to break the rule, I acknowledge QB is the position to do it. Don't do it again elsewhere. The Pat never did. They traded or let players walk. The Chiefs let Tyreek Hill go to Miami. They both keep winning. There is Nobody Bill Walsh wouldn't trade when they got only slightly old or expensive. The human nature error teams and especially fans make is weighing the move only on the replacement at that position, which probably will take a hit, but it's the whole team that counts. Except quarterback.

Best post explaining why paying a mid like Brock will assure our sustained mediocrity. There are so many examples of it not working and yet teams keep doing it.

Keep your best players and at the expense of the expendables. Sounds like a sound business decision to me.
